Definition & Purpose
An MPCB Display Board is a digital LED screen — typically 6×4 feet in size — mounted at the main entrance of an industrial facility. It publicly displays real-time data on air quality, water treatment, stack emissions, and company information as directed by the MPCB.
Who Requires It?
Red Category industries (highly polluting) and Orange Category industries (moderately polluting) under MPCB classification must install and maintain compliant display boards. This includes pharma, chemical, sugar, distillery, cement, steel, and textile industries.
What Data Must Be Displayed?
MPCB typically requires: Ambient Air Quality (PM2.5, PM10, SO₂, NOₓ), Treated Effluent Quality (pH, BOD, COD, TDS), Stack Emissions (PM, SO₂, NOₓ), Company Name, Consent-to-Operate Number, and Current Date/Time.
Penalties for Not Having One
Industries inspected by MPCB without a compliant display board face fines up to ₹1 lakh per day of non-compliance, show-cause notices, and risk suspension of their Consent to Operate (CTO) — effectively a factory shutdown order.
